Snow for Sundance Film Festival 2010!!

by Brady Goodwin 22. January 2010 07:37

The crowds brought the snow with them!  Adding to the normal hustle and bustle of the festival mother nature decided to donate over 1 feet of snow in the past 24 hours.  We are expecting more snow through the weekend and possibly into Monday.  In fact it is still snowing with no signs of letting up in the next few hours.  This got me thinking about what defines the different levels of snow storms.  The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration defines the level of snow storms as the following:

BLIZZARD: Winds of 35 mph or more with snow and
blowing snow reducing visibility to less than
¼ mile for 3 hours or more.

BLOWING SNOW: Wind-driven snow that reduces visibility.
Blowing snow may be falling snow and/or
snow on the ground picked up by the wind.

SNOW SQUALLS: Brief, intense snow showers accompanied
by strong, gusty winds. Accumulation may
be signifi cant.

SNOW SHOWERS: Snow falling at varying intensities for brief periods
of time. Some accumulation is possible.

SNOW FLURRIES: Light snow falling for short durations with little
or no accumulation.
