Rooftop Propane Torch

Yesterday, besides being a phenomenal day in terms of the weather was amazing.  Paul and I got on the rooftop of a home I had recently been looking at purchasing in the Promontory neighborhood of Park City.  While no nightly rentals are allowed in the area it is still an amazing 7,000 Acre project with 3 golf courses.  Call Tom Lafon to schedule an appointment to go out and view the property at 435-333-4068.

This particular home was a great deal for this area.  Unfortunately, due to lack of general maintenance Ice Dams were built up along the roof lines.  This is not only costly but can result in serious roof repair.  Most typically the gutters are ripped from the roofline by large ice blocks falling off the roof.  Leaks are caused by ice expansion and contraction in various valley's in shaded areas of the roof and the gables of the rooftops.  To eliminate the ice you have two options, option one was no fun and involves simply waiting for the sun to do its job and warm up the roof.  This can create a slow leak that may cause a much larger future problem and is harder to identify.  The second option, which we chose, involved 2 twenty gallon propane tanks and one blowtorch on the roof.  In 4 hours of constant flame only certain potions of the roof were cleared.  Jobs such as this can take anywhere from 1-3 days depending on the depth and extent of the ice buildup.  Take a look at the photos to see what I mean!
