This new program was created by the Department of Energy (DOE) and funded with $300 million USD. Utah has been awarded $2.6 million to disperse among participating citizens in the program. This program covers new Energy Star appliances and only covers those appliances purchased after the start of the program. So find that receipt for your new washer and dryer and submit it with your application and get some free money! You can register to receive updates via email and to be notified of when the program will begin. Applications were originally due in December of 2009 so you still have plenty of time to get your rebate if you purchased new in 2010.
Also, information on the program and its implementation will be posted as soon as it becomes available on the USEP Web site: http://geology.utah.gov/sep.
In addition, those interested in the program can sign up for our American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funding update notification list by emailing energyappliancerebate@utah.gov. You will be informed as soon as ENERGY STAR rebates and other ARRA funding becomes available.

Follow the link and print out the form to perform your very own at home energy audit. This will have you thinking of ways to save money like unplugging appliances when not in use or turning off your lights for an hour a day. Green energy starts in the home and by using less energy we generate less demand on our current infrastructure resulting in reduced energy costs for everyone!

The following documents are the next step after identifying whether or not you are ready for the investment into alternative, green energy sources. Starting with a site inspection by Rocky Mountain Power you will then be able to proceed with picking a contractor. The list provided has every contractor that has been approved to install a photovoltaic system in your home. You can choose to install a system without "selling back" the kilowatts you produce. With a large enough system you can produce enough kilowatts to run a large portion of your home without paying high utility bills. Basic items like water heaters in your home can be converted to use this type of energy. Additionally battery banks are highly customizable to help you maintain your current power consumption levels while reducing your carbon footprint.

The long anticipated part 2 has finally arrived. Check out the details of the incentive program that is in the works. It has not yet been approved but these are simply general guidelines until solar becomes more prevalent in the Park City Rentals market. Something as simple as running your hot water heater can help reduce carbon emmissions and save you lots of $$$$ every year!

Over the course of the next few weeks I will be providing information regarding solar energy and what the costs and benefits are. Also, I will discuss the program sponsored by Rocky Mountain Power to subsidize both the construction and buy back of the energy produced from homes or businesses producing solar energy. This program is not limited to Utah it is also extended to customers in Wyoming and Idaho. Later in the series I will provide a list of pre-approved program suppliers and installers to save you the time of finding one.
Part 1 merely consists of basic information regarding solar or photovoltaic energy systems. You can view the document by clicking on the link below. Be on the lookout for part 2 of the series, coming soon!
